FEATURES
- Ready-to-Use: A significant feature is its unique sizing and "oil barrier" which means it's ready for oil paint directly, without the need for priming (gesso), saving artists time and preparation.
- Material: Made from 100% cotton, it offers a soft, supple, and noble feel, ensuring archival quality and resistance to yellowing or discoloration over time.
- Texture: It has a balanced, fine grain that is comparable to a stretched canvas, providing a comfortable working surface and allowing artists to achieve various shadow and light effects.
- Weight: The 300gsm (140lb) weight provides excellent stability and wet strength, making it suitable for both thin washes and heavier impasto techniques without buckling.
- Durability: The special formulation makes it resistant to scratching, prevents greasy rings from forming, protects fibers from oxidation in contact with paint, and is tolerant to solvents.
- Color Rendering: The paint sits on the surface, allowing for excellent color rendering and potentially faster drying times.
- Manufacturing: It's "mould-made" in France, a traditional process that ensures a homogeneous and flat surface with superior quality and consistency, often featuring deckle edges (though the pads usually have cut edges).
- Versatility: While ideal for oils and oil pastels, its strong surface can also work with other mediums like acrylic and watercolor, though the flow might differ from traditional watercolor paper.
- Convenience: The pad format (glued on one short side) makes it convenient for artists, especially for outdoor painting or sketching, as it's durable yet lightweight and can be easily cut or rolled for transport.
